New England Juniors Continue Their Preparations for Kansas City Event!

Eighteen members of the New England Junior Hereford Association are working hard to complete their preparations to attend the National Junior Hereford Event in Kansas City , Missouri . This event, held July 9th through the 16th, brings together youth from across the United States to compete in a wide variety of contests.

Our youth show team consists of seven members from Maine , seven members from Connecticut and four from New HampshireTeam leaders have been designated for the cook-off and 3-on-3 basketball events, while individuals are also competing in the Hereford Bowl and Extemporaneous Speaking events. Traveling to Missouri with us are several adult members from New England , including the NEHA president Michael Doody, who will assist in transporting cattle, organizing housing and meals, and guiding our youth through the many opportunities that occur during the week.

Twenty-three farms and businesses throughout our New England region have sponsored a NEJHA team t-shirt that we will wear while we are in Missouri . Look for a photo on this website of the group wearing their shirts! Thanks to these generous sponsors!

Families and businesses have also donated a wide variety of items for our Silent Auction “basket”. Representing all six New England states, this silent auction table will help to generate funds for the 2012 trip to Nebraska . Our team can keep half of the winning bid! The other half goes to the National Hereford Association Junior group.

Many  of our Kansas City group are returning veterans – like our president Erik Fredrickson, his sister Anna, Hattie and Raymond Gushee, the Pepin brothers, Rebecca and Emily Harrison, the Carter sisters, the Duhamel brothers, Jessica Smith,  and Carrie Butterfield – which others are new. Meg Hall, Sage LeBlanc and Alec Clark will be attending their first Junior National and are looking forward to being part of our team.

Look for one last update before we leave in July, and then you can follow us at the event on our Facebook page – New England Junior Hereford Association. Sadie Pay, a long-time  junior member from Ohio , created this page, and we already have some posts from our members!

Thanks to everyone who has financially supported our group during our fundraising efforts. We depend on all of you, and you have all helped us so much.
